    Introducing: Cleveland Sirens

    Cleveland’s WNBA franchise unveiled their team name and colors on Tuesday. They are officially the Cleveland Sirens. “The Cleveland Sirens are sharp, unapologetic, fearless and relentless, representative of this region, our Great Lake and the future of our city and women’s basketball,” president of business operations Allison Howard said in a news release. The Sirens will begin play in 2028.

    The first WNBA game was played on June 21, 1997, between the New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks; launching the first major U.S. women’s pro basketball league backed by the NBA. The Sparks won 67-57.
