Wanted to just walk Carpenter there but i get why you can’t. The boys picked up Cade big time in the 10th and the hot streak keeps going. Detroit lost so as good as Carpenter and Tork were they can’t be player of the game and the Guards had 6 different guys score a run and 6 different guys with a rbi. Gonna give it to Tim Herrin. Been struggling this year but came in with one on no out in the 8th and struck out the side.

This was effectively a playoff game. 12 pitchers used, over 3 hours to play it, close and intense all night. In the end, the Guards take it behind 2-out RBI hits from Valera, Martinez, and Naylor combined with a 6 pitcher shutout where they all worked incredibly hard as the Tigers kept extending ABs. POTG could really be 10 guys but gonna hand it to Gav for getting through 5 scoreless despite Detroit hitters fouling off 31 pitches against him. We will see you tomorrow from Comerica.

What a series. Guards pick up all three in enemy territory and suddenly all the pressure for next week shifts to the Tigers. Shoutouts to Herrin for a 3rd straight effective outing to put up a zero when he couldn’t find the zone, Allard for a scoreless 8th after not pitching for 2 weeks while retiring Carpenter and Greene when they represented the tying run, Bibee for going toe-to-toe with Skubal on a day where he didn’t have his best, and Jhonk for taking Skubal deep to tie it at 1 and seize momentum. Jose is player of the game for the go-ahead HR in the 7th.
First time seeing a game and Comerica and it’s a solid park that seems to not have a bad seat in the place. Even in the upper deck, i felt close to the action. Negatives were limited ways to go up/down between concourses and the scoreboard feels very tucked in the left field corner which makes it a pain to look at when sitting down the third base line.

Another well earned win. After putting up 2 in the first the bats went quiet long enough for some sloppy defense to let the Twins tie it up the third time through the order but they battled. 4 2 out RBI for Naylor and then after taking the lead in the 8th, they had a 2 out rally in the 9th for some insurance because this team never quits on an inning, an at-bat, or a game. Pitching wise, Junis has 6 clean outs in relief and Messick with 5.1 IP and 2 ER which is merely his 5th best of 6 career starts. He has quickly become one of my favorites on the staff because he works fast and pounds the zone. He’ll give some hits but another 9 Ks tonight and less walks on the year than starts. Big doubleheader tomorrow.

The doubleheader hex is officially lifted. After going 1-15 in doubleheader games the last two years, they split all of them until today where they take both to move just 1 game back in the division. 9 days ago, they were still 9.5 back. Allen goes 8 scoreless and the pitching staff combines for 18 innings of 7 hit shutout baseball. Offense struggled early against Ober as usual but got the hit train rolling in the 5th and then tacked on a few more. Kwan with 4 RBI and Petey Halpin with a walk a hit and 2 runs scored in his big league debut.

What an effort after 5 innings of just about nothing on offense. Pitching kept em in it as always striking out 19 and only surrendering 2 runs on 5 hits. Guards ball in full effect in the 6th with multiple bunts, a balk, a wild pitch and aggressive base running to plate 3 and then Schnee tacked on 2 for insurance in the 7th. POTG is Kwan for being the spark plug to both innings of scoring.

Even with Detroit scoring first and Bibee looking shaky for most of his innings, I was never worried. We simply broke these guys when we beat Skubal again last night. Tanner gave us 6 strong despite having little command and getting squeezed by the umps a number of times, Valera with the biggest hit of his young career, and the usual suspects came through with insurance rbis. Cade and Gaddis only got 1 out each so both can probably go tomorrow. Win tomorrow and ice these guys.

While i’m more worried than i thought i’d be, i said going in i’d take 2/3. We still control our own destiny for the central and have a much easier final series than Detroit on paper, but boy it would’ve been sweet to have this one. Messick was about as good as you can when giving up 3 HRs but a few mistake pitches will come back to bite this offense more often than not. Credit to Detroit for breaking out of their funk. What a weekend ahead!

Incredibly disappointing to see this team come out so flat. You could afford to drop a game last night and I understand how hard it is to keep winning at such a clip, but to look like that in front of the home crowd with a playoff spot hanging in the balance is brutal. Cecconi got smacked early and a momentary swing in momentum faded into getting carved up by Leiter other than the one Manzardo ball. Credit to Texas for playing so well with nothing on the line and a lineup lacking in regulars. Gotta put this one behind us and say a massive thank you to the Sox for bailing us out. You’re still in first in the division. Don’t let them take it from you.

AN OCTOBER TO REMEMBER! As i sat in 90 degree heat on July 6th and watched this team punt away a win against Detroit to drop their 10th in a row and go to 40-48, I thought it was a lost season. They pulled me back in only to lose 9/10 in late August. But, a generational September run has them going back to the playoffs. The unlikeliest of heroes tonight with Johnathan Rodriguez answering Texas with a 2 run shot in the bottom of the first and then drawing a walk and coming home on a bloop, intent walk and hbp to walk it off. Pitching was excellent once again and now they can rest and line up their rotation for the wild card round. As fun as every playoff team i’ve seen has been, particularly 2016, 2017, and 2024, this team might take the cake. And one more thing, they have inside track on clinching the division tomorrow. What a season.

From 15.5 games back to AL Central champions. Guardians were down all day but they rallied to tie it in the 8th before giving up 3 in the top of the 10th. Then Brayan Rocchio with a walk-off 3-run shot off the foul pole to end the regular season with a bang. For the third week in a row, we’ll face the Tigers but this time, it’ll be for a trip to the ALDS.

Team prides itself on great defense all year and then does this shit. Then gets thrown a lifeline and can’t get a guy home from 3rd with nobody out. Unreal.

Another classic chapter in this budding rivalry. It looked like the defense was gonna be a problem again but the pitching got out of countless jams until finally the offense awoke in the 8th. Particularly clutch were the challenge in the 4th that saved a run and Herrin slamming the door in the 7th. Flaherty vs. Cecconi tomorrow with a trip to Seattle on the line.
