We are so unbelievably back. Chase DeLauter with 3 hits, 2 HRs, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored in his regular season debut and who else but Jose Ramirez with the 2-out double in the seventh to put us in front for good. Bibee with 5 solid innings before exiting with shoulder inflammation and 4 innings of 1 run ball from the pen including impressive outings from Brogdon and Sabrowski. Brayan Rocchio with the other 2 RBI on a double in the 5th. The M’s had 4 solo shots all coming right after Cleveland scores but it was not enough on this night. Gavin Williams on the hill tomorrow as we look to move to 2-0.

Was hoping for a better outing from Gavin in this one but the walks were an issue for him as they were many times last year. Seattle stranded some dudes in the first two innings but got a two-out 3-run shot in the 3rd and then tacked on another 2-run hr in the 6th. All 3 runners on for the homers got there from walks. Offense was pretty quiet for the Guards save for yet another homer from DeLauter in the 1st. Turning point in the game was when we had the bases loaded and 1 out and popped in to a double play on an early contender for TOOTBLAN of the year.

Chase Delauter man, what can you even say? 4 home runs in 3 games and tonight’s was a 2-run oppo taco in extra innings to extend the lead. It ended up being the game-winning RBIs as the M’s plated 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning. Seattle built a 2-0 off Joey Cantillo but the Cleveland got RBI hits from Ramirez and Manzardo to tie it and then from Kwan to take the lead in the 6th and 7th. Julio Rodriguez with heroics of his own to deliver a game-tying hit with 2 out and 2 strikes in the bottom of the ninth. Luke Raley also joined DeLauter as players to hit HRs in all 3 games of the series so far.

Welp, this was the first true clunker of the season. I will definitely take a split to open the season in Seattle though. Hancock was brilliant and had our guys guessing all night. Donovan with a 3-run shot as part of a night where he got on base 4 times. On to LA to face the defending champs. Just don’t get swept and I’ll be happy.

Parker Messick is one of those dudes. He quickly became my favorite guy in the rotation with a number of great starts in August and September last season and kept it going in his debut this season. Against one of the most fearsome lineups in the long history of this game he spread 5 hits across 6 scoreless innings with no walks and only threw 76 pitches. Bottom of the lineup was key to the scoring and then Schneemann had the key 2 RBI hit in the 7th. Bullpen was a little shaky but keeping the Dodgers out of the run column all night was a big ask. At a minimum the boys will get back home 3-4 but they’ll have 2 chances to steal the series from the back-to-back defending champs.

Bats were fast asleep. Dodgers didn’t do a ton but they did more than Cleveland. There were multiple short stoppages because of the rain which made a boring game go on even longer. Chase DeLauter left early after fouling a pitch off his foot which was devastating to see.

Massive win to take not only the series but the roadtrip as a whole. Big Rig was absolutely masterful and very efficient as well in 7 shutout innings. Docked this one a few points because even with a 4 run lead, Vogt wouldn’t let him chase the CG and the bullpen came in and was mid. Side note, how in the world do you shut this team out? Two times we kept them off the board until the 9th but they scored anyway. Jose with his first of many homers tonight. Arias and Freeman homered as well.

Behind yet another dinger from Chase DeLauter and what should have been 5.1 scoreless from Joey Cantillo, the Guardians take the home opener and get their first back-to-back wins of the year. Delauter had the tying RBI in addition to his 2-run shot and Gabby Arias had a wild game including a missed popup that led to the Cubs only run, a brutal baserunning mistake, and the go-ahead home run in the 7th. He truly is an enigma.

Not the start to the doubleheader we wanted. Cecconi was very good but alas the Cubs pitching was as well. Chance to score with a runner on 3rd and 1 out but couldn’t get it done and that made the difference. Chicago finally broke through in the 8th. Gotta get game 2 now.

For a while I thought we were gonna lose 1-0 and go back to the 2024 trend of sucking ass in doubleheaders but a pair of 3 run rallies keyed by some unlikely bats in Gabby Arias and CJ Kayfus saved the day. Messick was solid for 5 innings of 1-run ball but the bullpen was a bit shaky. It’ll be good to get Gaddis back and hopefully Cade Smith will work out of this funk. So far he hasn’t cost us any games but definitely a pattern of giving up runs when he has a multirun 9th inning lead. 6-4 against the Mariners, Dodgers, and Cubs is a damn fine start to the year. On to the Royals.

Pretty boring game. Royals had some clutch 2-out rallies and that was the difference. Bibee was shaky once again while Wacha was dealing. Pen also allowed some damage since many of the leverage arms went yesterday in the doubleheader. Gavin Williams vs the Royals 5 man tomorrow gives us a great chance to get a rubber match Wednesday. Jose became the franchise leader in games played with tonight’s contest. By the time he hangs ‘em up he’ll be #1 in nearly every counting stat outside of stolen bases (and he has an outside chance at those as well).

Parker Messick with 6.2 scoreless innings to continuing building on what has been a very promising start to his career both back in September and in a few starts this year. Chase DeLauter with a 100+ EV RBI double in the 8th to tack on a key insurance run. Also getting in on the fun was Jose Ramirez who has now gone deep against every team he has faced in his career. Rubber match tomorrow on Sunday Night Baseball will be a good time. Neither team has dropped a series yet.

Then it seemed like we might suffer an unfathomable loss but in a shocking turn of events, Juan Brito made a slick defensive play to save a hit that would have tied the game. What else can you even say about Parker Messick? Just an absolute treat to watch him pitch. CDL has some rookie of the year competition in his own clubhouse.

Cantillo turned in his first good start in a while and managed to outduel Skubal. Schneemann had a go ahead 2-run blast in the 3rd and the bullpen was absolute nails as the Guardians take the series and move to 6-0 against Detroit on the season. A brutal day on the injury front however as Martinez, DeLauter, and Ramirez all left the game early. It did however give us Rhys Hoskins in the outfield allowing a triple. With the win in the books, that becomes a fun goof to look back on. Gavin takes the bump tomorrow as we go for the sweep.
