Pretty lousy start to the season, even if trying to be unbiased. Webb is susceptible to these frustrating innings that dig a big hole for the team and looking at the rotation this year, not sure if SF can afford for him to have too many of these starts.
Yankees saw the ball well and I’m sure their fans loved their big inning but objectively speaking not thrilling from them either. Giants bats got unlucky when they did hit the ball hard. Bullpen looked good. Several bad throws from the Giants on defense but they had several good plays with the glove (Chapman as always, Arraez doesn’t look horrible at 2B) and Bader showed the outfield defense SF signed him for with a spectacular sliding catch in center. Flush it and on to the next

Maybe tomorrow is the game score a run. More than 1 hit would have been nice at least

Good to see the hits become runs. I think the offense will be fine. Have known Harrison Bader was going to be a great Giant since the signing.

There’s the hit parade! Gutsy start from Webb shows he will be fine

The fielding and bullpen are going to screw this team long-term even when they remember to hit. Dumb baserunning mistakes cost them too.

Fun pitchers’ duel for the most part, and as a Giants fan encouraging all around. Tyler Mahle’s first win as a Giant was a great performance against an always-dangerous lineup! SF continues to be a house of horrors for the Phils.
Good at-bats overall despite some squandering of chances early, Rafi Devers breaks the spell in the 6th. Was glad they broke it open in the 8th to take stress off the bullpen. Great series win to salvage the start of the season and roll into a road trip with some positive momentum

The kind of game that can bring a clubhouse together…

The offense we’ve been waiting for. This could be the breaking of the dam. The Giants were finally able to punish mistakes, and saw plenty of them from former Giant Zack Littell.
Hard to pick a player of the game, and I’m really tempted to vote Arraez when you look at his very surprising defense at 2B which netted them several outs in a game that saw them squander some costly ones. He may not be the rangiest but his fundamentals going to his left are as pleasing to watch as watching Chapman at third.
Great to see Ramos get it going and I really hope Casey Schmitt can keep getting starts. On the Nats side I have to marvel at James Wood’s power, it’s immense.

This looked like another shoddy game with Adrian Houser getting the Webb treatment of bad defense turning to a nightmare start. But then it turned into the kind of game you envisioned with the Tony Vitello hire. Just a week ago a 5-1 deficit might have seem insurmountable even against a weak pitching staff, but this is not the offense from a week ago.
A big thing to watch is that Jung Hoo Lee is starting to hit as advertised again, never mind the whole offense is following suit. Devers continues to be a rough watch, but his hit (against a LHP) couldn’t have come at a better time! He’s been due for so long that it feels like the dam could break soon. Just has to time the fastball a little better.
Ryan Walker cannot continue to be the closer. I think Winn could be closing in the future.

The hits just couldn’t get strung together. Bailey’s drop at the plate hurt. They were seeing the ball alright but that’s a gut punch going into the Dodger series

First installment to the rivalry this year was a great one, complete with fireworks. It was awesome to see the bullpen hold the lead pitch with an edge a la Erik Miller (that guy grows on me with every appearance).
Landen Roupp continues to be a real-deal starter. Don’t be surprised if we see a Webb-like rise from him down the stretch and hopefully in October.
These guys *battle*, man. It’s what you expect from a Vitello team. I’ve believed in every one of these post-2021 teams and I think this unconventional skipper hire could have been the right move to get them over that hump. Division be damned, these Giants could be a problem come September. They just have to get themselves there.

POG is kind of obligatory Pat Bailey but I wish he could split it with Tyler Mahle and the infield defense, specifically Devers and Arraez. This series has been electric and these guys are showing us a lot at the best possible time.
I’m beyond happy for Mahle who has had a rough Giants tenure so far; we’re going to need him and he was stellar last night.
Giants had Ohtani on the ropes twice, but that slider has Schmitt’s number. There’s still more to come from this offense. Huge series win against the hated ones, now let’s get greedy.

The getaway day for LA ends up a reversal of their fate from the first two games. Tyler Glasnow dominated the Giants despite some early wildness. Another tough start results wise from Webb although he does get the QS; you can’t blame him or the slight fielding miscues for the loss when you were held to 1 hit.
Dodgers snap their slide and end their rivalry series on a good note while Giants look to keep their homestand a good one against Miami

Casey Schmitt delivered the big blow and a Chapman-like play to win the game for SF and make up for his earlier baserunning error. Other stars include Heliot Ramos flashing his oppo power and Drew Gilbert going over that same wall and getting a couple great ABs (the Marlin outfielders robbed a couple almost sure hits from the Giants today).
Jung Hoo Lee continues to be on an absolute heater including a couple nice catches of his own in RF. It was great to see the bullpen hold their own again for the final 4 innings after Ray went out. Eury Perez looked untouchable for Miami but couldn’t survive his last trip through the Giant order.

Landen Roupp battles through an early big inning with a stellar outing and the Giants’ bats had his back. Jung Hoo Lee continues to be on fire, going 4-for-4 before his flyout in the 9th while Schmitt AGAIN delivered the winning swing of the bat plating 3 and sending the ball into the LF bleachers. Giants score 6 unanswered runs and Erik Miller shuts the door on Miami to cap off a very positive homestand.

Rough result anytime, but especially when Mahle pitched a very strong first half and contributed to the stellar defense being played behind him (seriously, the 5-3-1 double play was something I’ve never seen before). Hopefully they can right the ship today, but maybe the buff from firing your manager is real (see also: Boston)
