At least the real Sox started their RateGame career with a win. Rewatching some of this game and seeing Enmanuel Valdez warming up shows just how much this team has changed in the past 2 years 😂
Not even the craziest part of this early game. Zack Kelly started this game for the Red Sox. Shocked we didn't lose this game 50-2. But shoutout to you Zack for going 2 shutout innings-just for Greg Weissert to come in. I mean how did we not lose this game 50-2? Wild that they went 3 innings together without allowing a run. We also saw Jansen pitch 2 innings. Just a game full of pitching anomalies for the Red Sox.
That Duran triple just reminded me of prime 2024 Jarren. Dude was special. I really hope he can return to that, doesn't look likely though.
Lefty killer Rob Refsnyder of course grounded into a double play facing a righty, but at least got Duran in. In the 9th, parking lot enjoyer Reese McGuire got a tying sac fly and then we got 2 more sac flies in the 10th. Sac fly merchants 💯

Rewatching the highlights after this one to remind me what I watched nearly 2 years ago and boy it brought back some reminding. Lowkey forgot Kutter Crawford even existed, he's had so many setbacks recently with recovering from his injury I forgot what it's like to see him pitch. But in this game it was like watching Kyle Schwarber, who we let walk without even trying to offer him a contract after he balled out for us after the 2021 deadline, hit a leadoff nuke. Reminded me of a game I went to in September 2021 against Cleveland, got a ball from Jose Ramirez and got a video of Kyle Schwarber hitting a leadoff bomb. I loved Rob Refsnyder nice to see him with the RBI in the first inning, but that was all the offense for this game.
In the 4th inning with 2 outs we saw probably the most Red Sox play of the last couple years, an easy grounder to Valdez that he tossed to first and just dropped by Dominic Smith scoring 2 for Philadelphia. Like wtf. Just dropped the ball at first. Like how???

Not Pivetta's best start, but certainly could've been avoided if Bobby Dalbec had fielded that grounder at first. Dalbec on the Sox was your prime AAAA player-in Triple A he would absolutely mash, no one could get him out, but in the majors, aside from one year, he was not a very good hitter. Despite that I always loved Bobby D. 9 homers so far over in Japan, wishing him luck over there.
In the third again, fielding errors were crucial, a common theme amongst the Sox in recent memory. Forgot David Dahl was still in the league in 2024, but he absolutely torched us in the early part of this game. Almost seeing a Castellanos inside the park homer was wild 😭
And then a Raffy triple too. Wtf was this game? In the 5th inning, the Sox put up a 5 run rally to make a comeback on Philadelphia. 2026 Red Sox, take notes. The fielding overall in this game was just atrocious, sometimes though those games are the most fun and chaotic to watch. Shoutout D-Ham!

Man, a Tanner Houck start. I wonder when we'll get another one of those again. Dude has just been battling rehab and injuries it honestly feels like he doesn't exist anymore. He pitched well though, 6 innings only 3 runs for a quality start.
The Sox put together a couple long rallies in this one, something they have not been able to do this year. They've relied on Willson Contreras home runs for their main, and what feels like only, source of runs. It really is infuriating how they can't build up a rally aside from one huge one every couple of weeks.
Jarren Duran raked in this game, man 2024 Jarren Duran was so special. I grew to love him so much, became my favorite player during the season. Since then, he has been nowhere near the same. I hope he can return to that form, but I also think they missed the opportunity to trade him in the offseason. I certainly think it's something they should've done, and made the future outfield Anthony-Rafaela-Abreu.

Alex Verdugo’s first game back at Fenway after being traded for Dick Fitts. Hated that guy. Aside from the fact that he was a horrendous player that gave absolutely zero effort, he was a big part of the trade for Mookie Betts. Genuinely fuck Alex Verdugo. Him homering in his first at bat and overall dominating in this game only rubbed that in. No matter what team he was on, I’d still hate him. I get wanting the drip but if you’re going to do it at least back it up. There’s a reason why I like Acuna and Tatis and not Verdugo and Chisholm (who I still hated when he was in Miami).
Got cooked in this game by “Rookie of the Year” Luis Gil. 26-year-old ROTY Luis Gil. Juan Soto signed a $765M contract at 26 and Gil was a “rookie” in 2024 despite starting his career in 2021.
Stupid fielding errors continued to pile up in this game and that was really what cost us. Something that was dwelled on the entire 2024 season because it was such a major problem.

I loved having Tyler O’Neill on the Sox. Dude was absolutely jacked and seemed like a fun guy to have in the clubhouse. After a Duran double he drove him in for the first run of a nice little first inning rally that scored 3 big early runs on Carlos Rodon.
Of course, the Sox allowed the Yankees to take two back immediately in the second, because why wouldn’t they? Super fun to nearly blow the great lead you just got. Thankfully, Raffy made the lead 3 again. I miss Devers so much. Fuck you Craig Breslow and fuck you John Henry.
In the 5th, Justin Slaten clutched up big time, getting out of a bases loaded 1 out jam to keep our 5-2 lead safe. Slaten is such a demon man I’m so glad he recovered from his injury and is absolutely mowing guys down now.
Yet again in the 8th, we escaped a bases loaded 1 out jam relatively unscathed, only allowing 1 to keep a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the 8th, we got a couple insurance runs and Kenley finished things off.

Ah Kutter Crawford! Haven’t seen his face in what’s felt like 17 years. He then immediately gave up a home run to Aaron Judge. 26 home runs halfway through June is kind of insane. I hate him but you gotta respect what he’s done- at least in the regular season. Then he disappears in the playoffs.
Ceddy came up clutch in the 2nd to take it back and give us a 2-1 lead. Ceddanne’s of course a glove-focused guy but he can get some big hits, especially in the clutch he gets a ton of walkoffs, including that wild homer against the Rays and the walkoff triple to clinch the playoffs.
Davi Hamilton has an incredible performance on the bags, stealing 3 bases, with one of them being a nice steal of 3rd to set up to score on a sac fly to make it 4-1 in the 5th.
Seeing Kutter get so hyped after that strikeout of Judge was amazing. And then Zack Kelly. Boy oh boy. Bases loaded. 0 outs. Up 4-3. A 3-0 count. AND HE DIDN’T ALLOW A SINGLE RUN! 2024 Kelly was a demon.

Tyler O’Neill with an absolute bomb in the top of the first and then another one in the 3rd to give us a 4-1 lead. Seems between 2021-2024 we always had one outfielder who was just there for a year but still found a way to make a big impact. 2021 it was Hunter Renfroe. 2023 it was Adam Duvall. 2024 it was Tyler O’Neill. Now, we finally have that permanent solution in the outfield, with Ceddanne, Wilyer, and Roman. Unfortunately, we missed the peak of Duran’s value, and it would be very tough to trade him now, even though we should.
Nick Pivetta was another guy that was just a solid part of the team for years. Always got hyped when he got out of an inning. I’ll never forget that 13 inning thriller against Tampa in 2021, obviously the most memorable parts were the ball bouncing off Renfroe’s arm into the bullpen and Vazquez’ walkoff 2 run bomb, but Pivetta also had a huge impact on that game and went rightfully crazy whenever he got out of a jam.

Always love to see a Dom Smith RBI. Dude became a fan favorite so fast in Boston. Even though he wasn’t actually that good, everyone loved BDSM (Big Dom Smith Moments). Unfortunately, the Jays took those runs right back with a huge Ernie Clement 2 RBI double. Raffy and Yoshida finally tied it back up in the 6th, only for the Sox to lose it yet again in the bottom of the 6th. Tanner Houck was a stud in the 2024 season, but this was a rare bad outing from him. Wasn’t necessarily even that bad-a quality start of 6 innings, 3 runs, but with the run support combined with the situation he allowed those runs in, it didn’t look very good on him. But in the 8th, Tyler O’Neill hit his 3rd homer in 2 days to tie it at 3, and then Ceddanne Rafaela came up big to take a 4-3 lead in the 8th inning. An early fielding error in the 8th luckily turned out to be unharmful, and Kenley Jansen finished off a hard fought 4-3 victory.

First batter of the game, another misplay by the defense. Sox finished last in the American League with a .981 fielding percentage and 115 errors in the 2024 season. Luckily, it didn't lead to a run for the Jays. Bello again in the 2nd and 3rd innings allowed 2 early runners but was able to escape. Bello needs to find a way to get back to that, when he gets in a bad situation he needs to find ways out of it. Great job by Bello getting out of jams in this one.
Scoring started in the 3rd on a nice hit from D-Ham, then Enmanuel Valdez hit a homer in the 4th. Bello's magic ran out, and allowed Toronto to score two in the 4th. Duran immediately retook the lead in the 5th, going yard for the 6th time.
Man Kevin Kiermaier's fielding was elite. That AL East CF trio of JBJ, Pillar, and Kiermaier was something else in the late 2010s with Kiermaier on the Rays and Pillar in Toronto.
Sox got some insurance runs late to hold on to a good win and a sweep.

Jeimer Candelario in 2024 was lowkey a demon. Started this game off with his 13th homer of the year-but then Connor Wong? Yes, confirmed, Connor Wong tied it up with a homer of his own, then the Reds retook the lead on a Jonathan India homer. After he won Rookie of the Year, I thought Jonathan India was bound to be a superstar. Still upset he didn't pan out that well. Duran went yard for his second straight game to continue the trend, making it 2-2, but then Jeimer Candelario hit the FIFTH solo homer of the game, in only the 3rd inning, to make it 3-2 Cincy.
Then the solo homer streak was broken in the 7th thanks to-guess what? TWO FIELDING ERRORS! Valdez made a bad throw to first to allow Santiago Espinal to reach base, then a bad glove throw to home by Cam Booser on a bunt allowed Espinal and Luke Maile to score. The fielding woes of this 2024 team infuriated me so much. Could've had a much better team if we could be competent with the glove.

Duran started it off getting his hit streak to 12 games. But then Spencer Steer gave the Reds a first inning lead with a 2-run dinger. I thought Steer was going to be so good after that 2023 season, he's been solid but hasn't really panned out.
In the third, Elly extended that lead with a solo shot. Elly just so good man, usually love him but of course not when he's tearing up the Sox. We really live in a shortstop generation with Elly De La Cruz, Bobby Witt Jr, Anthony Volpe, Francisco Lindor, Corey Seager, and Trea Turner. Truly incredible.
WE ALL LOVE BDSM (BIG DOM SMITH MOMENTS) DOM SMITH HOME RUN LETS GOOOOOOOO
Connor Wong became the 2nd Sox player to extend their hit streak to 12, driving in Abreu to make it 3-2. Refsnyder tied it at 3-3 in the 8th, and Devers got a sac fly, and Duran made an absurd home run robbery and Jansen finished things off. Good little comeback and a very fun win.

Rubber match of this June interleague series between the Red teams. Had a rally chance in the first inning but it came to nothing. Zack Kelly as the opener, certainly interesting. 2024 Zack Kelly was lowkey a demon though. 2 shutout innings in this one.
CONNOR WONG HOME RUN WTF WAS 2024 CONNOR WONG DUDE WAS A DEMON 13 GAME HITTING STREAK AND HOMER NUMBER 7 IN JUNE!!!! 2024 CONNOR WONG I WASN'T FAMILIAR WITH YOUR GAME ANYMORE BEFORE TODAY!!!!
Jarren Duran got a big RBI double to make it 4-0 then another RBI knock to make it 5-1. 2024 Jarren Duran, I was familiar with your game. Please return to 2024 Jarren Duran. I need 2024 Jarren Duran in my life again.
Then a Rob Refsnyder home run. Mr. Lefty Killer striking again. Need that typa guy on the Sox right now that can absolutely cook lefties every time he steps up to the plate.
Almost completely choked it in the 6th, going from 7-1 to 7-4, but we held on to the win of the game and the series.

Tanner Houck started this one great, 3 straight 1-2-3 innings. He was so good in 2024 and now I'm convinced he's dead. I've seriously heard nothing about him since like last summer. Is he recovering from his injuries? Is he still on the Red Sox? Is he even real or just a player in my dreams? DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING?
Fielding idioticness showed out again in the 7th inning, after losing the lead David Hamilton could've ended the inning to keep it 2-2 but sailed the throw 10 FUCKING FEET over Dom Smith's head and oh what do you know Vlad Jr hits a 471 FOOT HOME RUN AND ITS 6-2 BLUE JAYS ALL OF A SUDDEN!
Then in the 8th the Sox make a wild comeback! D-Ham 2 run homer, a rare drop by Kiermaier, and then Romy my Homie comes up huge with the 2 RBI knock to tie it.
And then prime 2024 Jarren Duran drove in Ceddy to win the game. Incredible win for the Sox, if only this year's Red Sox could make a comeback. Haven't won a game we trailed by 3+ in.

Another Rafael Devers home run! Man Craig we could certainly use a hitter with that kinda power on this team right now couldn't we? But of course we can't because you got a little butthurt about him not wanting to play first base when you sprung it on him a couple weeks into the season when you could've gotten him adjusted to it during Spring Training. This entire front office and ownership is an absolute fucking joke. And now the product out on the field is one of the worst in the league. Just absolutely atrocious.
As for this game, that 3rd inning was just terrible. Multiple misplays in the field and the Jays managed a 7-run rally. 2024 Sox could hit and couldn't field. 2026 Sox can field and can't hit. Just can't have it all. Can it be 2018 again?

Ah yes, this game. Danny Jansen made history. June 26, 2024. Jansen is at the plate, 1 out in the top of the 2nd, 0-1 count, and the ump calls the game off. Fast forward to late July, Jansen now gets traded to the Red Sox, then on August 26, 2024, Jansen gets behind the plate for the Sox as they resume the game. Daulton Varsho now steps up to the plate with a strike on him. Jansen not only became the first player to play for both teams in the same game, but to bat and catch in the same at-bat. He also became the first player to hit in the top and bottom of the same inning. Let me know when Shohei Ohtani does that!
Just hearing the announcers talk about it when Varsho got the Jays first hit was so funny. 22 game on base streak but this doesn't extend the streak because this is in June even though its August right now!
Only thing normal about this game was the fielders being absolute incompetent idiots. And it ruined the Sox in the 8th inning.

This game was Xander Bogaerts return to Fenway. Bogaerts was an incredible shortstop here for a long time, and was a big part of the 2013 and 2018 World Series wins. Along with Betts, Bradley, and Benintendi, Bogaerts was an awesome part of the Killer B's. I'll always love Xander Bogaerts.
So I guess Nick Pivetta was the main pitcher for the Red Sox in two straight games thanks to that whole Danny Jansen game thing. Despite going 6 innings just 2 days before, or 2 months after, Pivetta was locked in early, scoreless for 4 innings.
Nice to see the days where Connor Wong could actually be useful and cause some runs, he had a nice little bloop single that brought in an RBI, but then of course the lead was erased by a Kyle Higashioka 2-run homer. Then the Padres just continued to rally in the 5th, scoring 9 runs before the Sox even got an out. Of course most of it was with Greg Weissert pitching. What does Greg Weissert even do?

Duran bobbling the ball and being unable to field, what's new? Still so pissed about that game two nights ago. If you want Duran in the lineup, make him the DH. I don't care that you're paying Yoshida a ton of money, if he can't hit, he shouldn't be in the lineup. I honestly wouldn't even be mad if they DFA'd him.
Jackson Merrill with a home run to make it 4-0 Padres, and they blew it open the next inning. I'm still so mad Merrill got robbed of Rookie of the Year by Paul Skenes in 2024. I love Merrill and he deserved that award.
Just a terrible pitching performance, Houck was great in 2024 but can't pitch great every game. Don't know if Houck even still exists anymore I'll be honest.
And as always, fuck you Manny Machado.

Entering this game down 20-3 in the series. Josh Winckowski on the mound. I wonder what Josh Winckowski's doing now. Apparently he's in the Blue Jays farm system now. Hoping he can make his way back up to the majors because I'd love for the Red Sox to face him. But still I mean even he would probably look like prime Mariano Rivera against this lineup.
Good to see an early Rafael Devers home run in this one. I could go for a Red Sox Rafael Devers home run right now. But of course John Henry wanted to salary dump a top 15 hitter in baseball and Craig Breslow was a little whiny that he wouldn't change positions two weeks into the season after they previously told him he wouldn't have to. This franchise is just such an embarrassment right now.
Josh Winckowski with a nice outing in this one though, shoutout Winck. I love Matt Waldron, knuckleballs are so fun. Very unfortunate that The Show patched him, used to absolutely fry my friends with him.

Nice little pinball to get this game started with 2 runs in the top of the first. Of course, baseball is a game of skill, but man do you need some luck to win a baseball game.
Interesting to look back on the Jazz Chisholm Marlins. Back when he wasn't an annoying bum like he is now. I mean, he still kinda pissed me off, but at least he was good then and could back it up. Now he just sucks and yet still acts like he's one of the best players in the league.
Another good Kutter Crawford start. With the depth in the current rotation, him coming back really isn't urgent, but the rotation is very lefty-heavy and it would be good to have another righty arm in the rotation, so I do hope Crawford can recover.
Nice home run from Ceddy. Need a bit more out of his bat, of course one of the best fielders in baseball but I really do want to see some more productive hitting from him.
Zack Kelly did everything to choke this one, but luckily we held on.

Some fielding woes in this game for the Marlins. A nice reprieve from the usual Red Sox fielding struggles, in this game it was in their favor and got them the lead in the 3rd inning.
Love Duran's hustle. Beats out an infield single and then goes first to third on a groundout. Need this Jarren Duran back so badly man, he was so good in 2024.
While it wasn't his near no-hit bid of 2023 (that I missed at a Sea Dogs game, but got my glove signed by Marcelo Mayer so that was absolutely awesome), Bello pitched a great game in this one.
Rob Refsnyder with a great diving catch to protect a then-slim lead, a great win overall for the Sox. A Rafael Devers triple and a great 9th inning rally got some huge insurance runs to secure the victory. Fun watch.
