Tarik Skubal started on the bump for the Tigers, while Framber Valdez started for the Astros. In the top of the 2nd inning with one out, Wenceel Pérez singled. Spencer Torkelson walked. Parker Meadows grounded into a fielders choice, with Torkelson out at second. With runners on first and third, Jake Roger’s hit an RBI single up the middle on a 3-0 count to give the Tigers the lead. Trey Sweeney followed that up with an RBI single. Matt Vierling followed that with yet another RBI single. In the 7th inning, the Tigers threatened to score more runs, as they had the bases loaded with two outs, but failed to add to their lead. Jason Foley began the 9th inning for the Tigers. He immediately gave up a double to Yordan Alvarez, an infield single to Alex Bregman, and an RBI single by Yainer Diaz to put the Astros on the board late. 3-1. Jeremy Pẽna sacrificed Bregman and Diaz forward one base. The Tigers removed Foley from the game and put in Beau Brieske. Victor Caratini lined out. Chaz McCormick walked. With the bases loaded, Jason Heyward came up to bat. Heyward hit a screamer directly at the first baseman, Torkelson. The postseason cinema is something that only comes in one month. October. I don’t like Halloween, but I celebrate postseason baseball all month long. Tarik Skubal’s final line: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K on 88 pitches. Tiger’s reliever Will Vest was very effective in this game, pitching 1.2 innings, striking out 4, and allowing no baserunners. Framber Valdez’s final line: 4.1 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K on 78 pitches.
