Sergei Fedorov’s jersey retirement, shocked it took so long. The ceremony was good and it was cool to see his jersey get retired and learn Fedorov fun facts. Don’t think them doing this against the Hurricanes is random. In 1998, the Hurricanes offer sheeted Fedorov with an insane contract that would paid him $2M in base salary, a $12M bonus and an extra &14M bonus if the team made it to the conference finals. The Red Wings matched it, won the cup and Fedorov made the most money in a single season in NHL history, $28M. Fun facts aside, the actual game. James van Riemsdyk opened up the scoring early in the 1st, ironic considering JVR entered the NHL the season after Fedorov retired. Michigan-born DeBrincat and Kane, who played against Sergei helped put Detroit up 3-0. Just when it looked like a forgone conclusion, the Canes stormed back and tied it up with a few minutes to go. Red Wings won it under dubious circumstances, but this was still a great game. Fitting for Fedorov.
