The NHL’s tank bowl and the Flames won it easily. While I am bummed that the Flames got absolutely wrecked by a fellow bottom feeder, I am not a buzzkill to the point that I can’t appreciate the feel-good moments of this game. We had not 1 but 2 first career NHL goals in this game. First, it was Reid Schaefer, a former Oilers first round pick back in 2022, playing in the 3rd game of his career, gets his first career goal off a scrappy play in front of the net. 30 minutes of game time later, Ozzy Wiesblatt (the Ozzy Train, great nickname potential) came crashing in for his first career goal by being in the right spot, 5 years after being a 1st round pick himself. These guys didn’t just score their first goals, they got their first career fights (at least Schaefer’s first). Hell, Schaefer held his own against Pachal. Heck of a way to make an impression in Smashville. The feel-good moments give this game a couple extra points, plus, Morgan Frost got a consolation goal, so could be worse.
