“Virginia only had 2 losses coming into this game. Both of their losses were by a combined 8 points, one of them being by 1 in ot to Virginia Tech. They won the ACC tournament. UMBC on the other hand lost to Albany by 44 points less than 2 months prior. Virginia was ranked as the #1 team heading into the tournament and UMBC was ranked as the worst team in the entire bracket. Calling this the biggest upset in March Madness history is an understatement. This is the biggest upset in sports history. We will never see something like this happen ever again. UMBC beat Virginia by more than double the total amount of points they lost by all season. This was a truly catastrophic loss for Virginia. The state of Virginia was in hell in March 2018. Obviously Virginia would go on to win the entire thing the very next season in one of the greatest comeback stories in sports, but nobody will ever forget this game. ”
