Exactly what the Padres needed. Besides the obvious, the Padres pitching, particularly their bullpen, showed why they had all the hype coming into the postseason. Held the Cubs in check all game, culminating in a very slick double play to end it. They took the lead almost immediately and hung onto it. It also helps to at their best hitters hit like we know they can. Machado’s homer took the tension off as the Padres cruise to a win and it will all come down to game 3.
