“Mika Zibanejad’s 1000th game against the team that drafted him. See my ‘Did you know?’ for this game if you want to learn more about that. Unfortunately, this game didn’t go well for him nor his team. It took 14 minutes, 11 Sens shots and goal before the Rangers had their first shot. That sequence set the tone. It took a powerplay late in the 1st period for the Rangers to get anything going and they still couldn’t get anything threatening. The Rangers would actually come out pretty strong to start the 2nd, only to give up a goal to Warren Foegele and a 4-minute powerplay right after. By the end of the 2nd period, the shots were 25 to 4 in favour of Ottawa. The Senators played a much more conservative game in the 3rd out of necessity as they had lost 2 of their 6 D-man due to injury and managed to hang. Shots don’t always tell the story of a game, but the shot totals in this game tell you everything you need to know. Edit: knocked it down a point because I weighed the 3rd too heavily.”
