Welcome to Los Angelas Artemi Panarin! In the very last game before the Olympic break, also a matchup between LA and Vegas, I mentioned in my rating how the Kings looked like they desperately needed Panarin. Well, they now have him and he’s immediately making a difference. However, the problem is Panarin can’t fix their issues on defense nor can he make up for struggling goaltending. Through the first 2 periods, Panarin made a strong impact on the Kings. Their flow looked so much better and sure one of his assists came off a fortunate bounce, but the other was a pretty tic-tac-toe play that he initiated. Unfortunately, the Kings had to play a 3rd period and the Golden Knights changed the script. 3 goals in 4 minutes put this game in Vegas’s hands. Another Russian, Kuzmenko, tried his best to save the day for LA, but no dice, Vegas escaped with a win. LA did cut the deficit to 1 twice, only for Vegas to double their lead less than 2 minutes later each time. Really killed the drama.
