The California Rivalry. I had high hopes for this game and it only got better as it went on. The 1st period, some nice back and forth hockey with good goaltending, neither team could score. The 2nd period had even more action and we finally got some goals. Even then, the 3rd was insane! Gaudette and Fiala went back and forth with goals early in the 3rd, neither team was giving up an inch. Despite that, the Kings grabbed all the momentum with that Fiala goal. They had total control and even though that didn’t lead to a ton of shots, it felt like they had the puck forever. That eventually led to Lafferiere giving the Kings their first lead, surely that had to be the dagger. Not if Macklin had anything to say about it. He tied it up with a wrister and we luckily got overtime and only overtime. Eklund ended this all time classic with the OT winner. Incredible game, full of drama, fast and entertaining hockey. We didn’t even have to sit through a shootout. Can’t ask for much more.
