“What a pleasant surprise this was. Literally my 3rd choice when picking an NHL pre season game to watch alongside playoff baseball, but this game turned out to be pretty good. Shoutout to Tom Wilson for playing almost less than 10 minutes thanks to an early 15 minute penalty and still getting a goal off a weird bounce. Poor Jet Greaves, dude made some sweet saves but gave up some unfortunate and straight up bad goals. While Logan Thompson stood on his head to save the win.”

What a pleasant surprise this was. Literally my 3rd choice when picking an NHL pre season game to watch alongside playoff baseball, but this game turned out to be pretty good. Shoutout to Tom Wilson for playing almost less than 10 minutes thanks to an early 15 minute penalty and still getting a goal off a weird bounce. Poor Jet Greaves, dude made some sweet saves but gave up some unfortunate and straight up bad goals. While Logan Thompson stood on his head to save the win.

20 years ago, the Carolina Hurricanes won game 7 to clinch the Stanley Cup on the back of a terrific rookie goaltender’s great performance. Today, the Hurricanes have won game 6 to clinch the Stanley Cup on the back of another rookie goaltender’s great performance. The Carolina Hurricanes are Stanley Cup champions. They won that Cup like how they won this game: relentless pressure, clutch goaltending when it has to and an unstoppable line that will go down in the history books. Stake n Hall drove the offense. Former Oilers top pick Taylor Hall scored to make it 1-0 and Stankoven singlehandedly preserved the puck and set up Blake for goal #2 in the 2nd. From there, there was 1 man who was the star: Brandon “Bus Stop” Bussi. He made sure Vegas never had any hope of another comeback with so many big saves. He won’t win the Conn Smythe, but he still continued the Cam Ward lineage. This game was just okay, but there’s only 1 man on my mind. Rod Brind’Amour. Rod the Bod. Mr. Hurricanes.

The weirdest game of this series; only because it was neither 1. an all-time classic and 2. A game that came down to the wire. Well, it technically went down to the wire, but the Hurricanes weren’t in real danger with a 2 goal lead, even for a series as crazy as this one. This game being uncharacteristic was the theme. The Hurricanes had the rare slow start only to recover when Jordan Staal put himself into NHL lore, becoming 1 of just 4 players ever to score a goal in each of the first 5 games in a Cup Final. Getting that goal seemingly awoke a demon in the Hurricanes because they proceeded to do something they never could: dominate the 2nd period. Idk if Torts told his team to go throw some cheap shots, but it felt like Vegas was only concerned with hurting the Hurricanes. I’m not trying to say Carolina is innocent, instead, Vegas was being a bunch of morons and taking penalties left and right. It bit them in the ass as Carolina ran away with the 2nd. Bussi held it down in the 3rd.
