Seth Lugo started on the bump for the Royals, and Marcus Stroman started for the Yankees. Gleyber Torres went 2/3, hitting two of the three Yankee hits. The other Yankee hit belonged to Austin Wells in the 7th. In the top of the 3rd, Bobby Witt Jr. put the Royals on the board with an RBI single. Salvador Perez followed that with an RBI single of his own to put the Royals up 2-0. Perez hit another RBI single in the 5th. Tommy Pham hit a solo in the 7th. Maikel Garcia hit a sacrifice fly in the 8th to put the Royals up 5-0. Kris Bubic pitched the 8th and John Schreiber pitched the 9th for the Royals.
