“Another draw in a tale of 2 halves (as all of football is, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise with this quarters nonsense). Saudi Arabia was trying to repeat their heroics from 2022 and they nearly pulled it off. It certainly looked like it was going to happen during the first half when that had total control over Uruguay. Valverde was invisible and Muslera had to make some insane saves to keep the game tied. Fittingly, his first mistake cost his team as Saudi capitalized and took the 1-0 lead. Combine that with the offsides Uruguay kept committing and I was very pessimistic. Fortunately for Uruguayans, they woke up in the 2nd half. They figured out how to get chances and barraged Saudi Arabia with more and more as the half went on until Araujo finally leveled the game. However, I will remember this game for the keepers. I already mentioned Muslera, but Mohammed Al Owais was carrying Saudi’s backline like Atlas in the final minutes. Crazy save after crazy save, he was phenomenal. ”

Saudi once again gets a great result against a South American team to start the tournament. All these ties are adding up for some very dramatic group endings across the board. Uruguay looked slow and didnt play with the urgency or intensity they needed
