Jose Quintana started on the bump for the Mets. The Phillies started Ranger Suarez. Quintana 1-2-3 inning in the 1st. Suarez allowed the bases loaded but got out of it. Another nice Quintana inning in the 2nd, only allowing one baserunner on a walk. Suarez loaded the bases again but escaped again. Both Quintana and Suarez escaped the 3rd inning facing the minimum. In the top of the 4th, Bryce Harper walked and Nick Castellanos doubled with one out. Alec Bohm hit a chopper to third base that Mark Vientos couldn’t field in time. 1-0 Phillies. Quintana escaped the inning with no further damage. Suarez 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half. Quintana had a clean 5th inning, only letting one on base by hitting Kyle Schwarber. In the bottom of the 5th, Suarez gave up a double to Francisco Lindor and then walked Vientos. He struck out Brandon Nimmo and was taken out of the game directly after. Jeff Hoffman was put in. He got out of the inning. Quintana was taken out in the 6th after giving up a leadoff double to Harper. Reed Garrett was called to the mound. He struck out two and walked one before also getting removed in the 6th. David Peterson replaced him and got Bryson Stott to ground out to end the inning. In the bottom half of the 6th, Hoffman gave up a single to J.D. Martinez. He hit Starling Marte with a pitch. He walked Tyrone Taylor to load the bases. Hoffman got Francisco Alvarez to ground into a fielder’s choice, with the out being forced at home. Hoffman was removed. Carlos Estevez replaced him. Francisco Lindor came up to bat and blasted a GO AHEAD GRAND SLAM over the right-center field wall. Estevez recorded the last two outs of the inning. But the damage was already done. The momentum had shifted too far in the Mets direction for the Phillies to come back. In the top of the 9th, Edwin Diaz was put in to pitch. He walked JT Realmuto and Stott to lead off the inning. He got Cody Clemens to strike out, Brandon Marsh to fly out, and Schwarber to strike out to end the Phillies season and move the New York Mets to their first NLCS since 2015, when they lost to the Royals in the World Series. Jose Quintana’s final line: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K on 90 pitches. Ranger Suarez’s final line: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 4 H, 8 K on 97 pitches.
