“So much for a matchup between 2 playoff contenders. Love Markstrom, appreciate everything that he did in Calgary (that didn’t happen in 2022-23), but my god he had a rough night. Lightning struck early and often. Despite the silky moves of Like Hughes, the Devils were helpless to stop them. Jake Allen came in and didn’t fare much better. I do appreciate the Devils didn’t simply roll over and die, but it would’ve taken a miraculous comeback to save this game from a lower rating. Especially when the Lightning literally had an answer for every Devils’ goal. Kucherov was especially great with his 4 assists, but Hagel, Paul, Bjorkstrand and Guentzel also deserve a ton of credit for this domination. I will say that the Devils’ defense did not help. Just look at Bjorkstrand’s first goal and how the Devils defense left him home alone and unaccounted for. Shit happens I guess.”
