The two newest teams in the NHL face off in a game that was both hectic and wonderful to watch. Nick Schmaltz has tapered off from his near-league-best form he had at the start of the season, but he had a wonderful play on Utah’s first goal, stealing the puck, creating his own breakaway and scoring all in the same play. Schmaltz was also brilliant on the defensive side, even beyond that takeaway that led to the goal. He was everywhere. This game had some crazy moments, Utah did a tremendous job killing a near-2-minute 5-on-3 only to give up a goal shortly after. Marchment was THE driving force of Seattle’s offense. Utah then scrambled to take the lead back and Guenther gave them exactly that, with a big helping hand from a Schmaltz pass. Schmaltz was my 1st star, but it would be a crime to not give Vejmelka a ton of credit for absorbing pressure and shots. I also need to give massive props to Utah’s crowd, the atmosphere was electric, would love to see that crowd in the playoffs. Plz.
