“The potential playoff implications in this matchup are critical. Both the Flyers and Red Wings have their own multi-year playoff droughts while being 2-points out of the 2nd wild card spot. Fortunately, both teams played up to the stakes. Albeit Philly looked much more desperate to the their playoff droughts. Unfortunately for the Flyers, they started Ersson so they were already playing with a disadvantage. The first period was more of a slow burn and it took until the end of it for the Red Wings to finally break through thanks to Debrincat. The Flyers began to take over and scored just 30 seconds, but Ersson was their downfall as he gave up a couple bad ones. The Flyers did try to mount a comeback (although the refs tried to take away Konecny’s goal for some reason), but they’re just didn’t have enough juice. John Gibson was great, big reason why Philly couldn’t close the gap. Patrick Kane had a vintage performance and DeBrincat was a demon.”
