I feel like best case scenario for the Flames, with the way they are now, is losses like this. The Flames have great goaltending and a good defensive system; so they can prevent shots and goals. They did a great job of both those things, in just the 2nd period. During the 2nd, I honestly think they completely outplayed the Wild and could’ve easily tied up the game if not for Gustavsson lock it down. Which brings up the obvious problem with my Flames. They can’t score. As much as I love guys like Frost and Coronato, this forward core is not good and in desperate need of more juice. Which is why losing games like this is good. It reaffirms the progress of guys like Bahl and Brzustewicz, incentivizes Flames management (Maloney) to accept reality and blow it up and makes sure these games aren’t a complete bore. I’d much rather watch a slow game that ends up being close until the last few minutes than watching my Flames get boat-raced due to their own incompetence. Could be worse.
