Spencer Arrighetti started for a Astros and JP Sears started on the bump for the Athletics. The A’s scored a run in the first off of a Shea Langeliers sac fly. Zack Gelof hit a solo homer in the 2nd to extend the lead to 2-0. In the 7th inning off of A’s reliever Tyler Ferguson, Jon Singleton hit an RBI triple. Jose Altuve hit an RBI single to tie the game. The relievers for both teams were shutting the other’s offense down. In the 10th, Bryan Abreu and Mason Miller kept runs off the board. In the 11th, Abreu and Hogan Harris kept it tied. Harris and Hector Neris pitched the 12th. In the top of the 12th, Daz Cameron led off the inning with a bunt base hit down the third base line. With runners on first and third, a Max Schuemann sac bunt scored a run, but the Astros didn’t get an out as Neris failed to grip the ball when trying to get the runner at home. Cameron moved up to third on the play. 3-2 Athletics. Nick Allen bunted towards first base, where Yainer Diaz couldn’t make the catch. Cameron scored, Schuemann put at second. The Astros got out of the inning on a double play. 4-2 Athletics. In the bottom half, Altuve led off the inning with an RBI double. 4-3 Athletics. Harris got Yordan Alvarez to ground out, moving Altuve to third. Kyle Tucker struck out. Alex Bregman grounded out to Harris. A’s hold on from 3 straight bunts. Absolutely absurd final inning. JP Sears’s final line: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K on 82 pitches. Spencer Arrighetti’s final line: 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K on 97 pitches.
