Tristan Jarry’s Oilers debut became the Connor-McDavid-brutally-reminds-Toronto they-will-never-have-him-game. Jarry was alright, not spectacular, but solid, which is something that hasn’t always been a guarantee on Edmonton. Meanwhile, Hildeby got the McDavid-Draisaitl experience for the first time and he learned what many goalies know, it is not fun. Draisaitl was also determined to get to 1000 points in the back-half of this game, which he failed to do. He’ll likely get it in the Oilers’ next game. It’s certainly not a good sign for the Leafs when their most productive offensive player was Lorentz. It feels like Bérubé is pigeon-hole-ing this Leafs squad into a play-style they’re not built for. At least Cowan got a goal. Podkolzin got 2 and even Darnell Nurse scored, a true rarity for the Nurse not named Sarah. Overall, this started out as a competitive game but the Oilers eventually steam-rolled the Leafs, not much more to it beyond McDavid being McDavid.
