The not-even-close-comeback. This was like the Vegas-Boston game except if Vegas threw a lazy kick and then jumped into an empty in ground pool after going down by 3 goals. The Oilers welcomed back Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak to Edmonton with a splat. Before they even got a tribute, the Penguins one-upped Boston’s 3 goals in 54 seconds by scoring 3 goals in 37 seconds. Mantha scored twice in 15 seconds thanks to great passes from Brazeau and Crosby deflected the 3rd one. I’d understand if Walman’s shorthanded goal fooled you into thinking Edmonton could make the comeback. The crowd certainly thought so. Malkin took those hopes behind a wood shed and shot it repeatedly with a beautiful pass to Rakell. Then he stripped McDavid himself and scored on a breakaway in a 2 minute span. The Malkin goals were a microcosm of this game. The Pens outworked and outclassed the sluggish Oilers. So of course I picked them to win tonight, just pathetic. If only Skinner had been between the pipes.
