The commentators at one point in this game said “these teams don’t shoot the puck often; but those chances are high quality”. That is the best way to describe what went on in this game. Although they didn’t mention that both sides go about getting those shots in different ways. For Dallas, it was their forecheck. The Stars forecheck was cooking early and it set up Back’s early goal when Lundkvist’s shot just barely squeezed past Vasilevsky. Lightning bounced back after a good penalty kill to score on a rush chance. Although the Lightning managed to keep up on the scoreboard, the Dallas forecheck was frazzling Tampa. In the 2nd, we got a better look at Tampa’s technique: crisp passing and rush chances. Kucherov sent a laser to Hagel go the Lightning’s goal #2 and Guentzel followed up a rebound on a rush chance for goal #3. It would come down to the 3rd and the Lightning did a masterful job on remaining composed and not letting Dallas control them. Stars had 2 shots and no good chances.
