I’m a big believer in momentum. It is clear that all the momentum the Blues built up last season either died in Game 7 against the Jets or at some point during the offseason. Either way, they did not look good against the Wild. While the Blues outshot the Wild, those shots weren’t high quality. Meanwhile the Wild made sure every chance they got was a good one, Boldy in particular really impressed with creating chances. Sure, Binnington didn’t play well, but players bobbling pucks when trying to catch them and leaving guys open in front of the net is going to make it hard on any goalie. Let alone one that gives up the occasional juicy rebound. Felt like the Blues resigned themselves to their fate in the 3rd. This went just about as poorly as it could’ve for them outside of an injury.
