This game had nearly the worst case scenario from the A’s when it comes to starting a game. Not only going 3 up and 3 down in the top of the 1st, but in the bottom… an error on the first batter faced and then leading to 3 quick runs for the Pirates is about as bad as you can fear minus an early injury. While Jacob Wilson couldn’t make his dad proud with his bat, Lawrence Butler definitely made the last A’s fans very happy. Luis Severino playing with fire prior to getting yanked certainly didn’t help, but the A’s pulled through, partially thanks to the Pirates incompetence.
