“Looked like a dud at first, but it became better as it went on. First, I must give UCLA a ton of credit. Even though they lost 2 starter, were the underdog coming into this game and were down 15-4 just 5 minutes into this game, they managed to force Purdue to stay on their toes all the way until the end. With that being said, Purdue 100% earned this victory. Braden Smith was a small factor in this win, but his 9 assists put him less than 20 away from Hurley’s all-time Men’s NCAA record. The real star was Oscar Cluff. Just an absolute warrior in this game, grabbing board after board (14 total) while leading the way in scoring. 9 offensive rebounds is crazy work especially when UCLA only had 7 offensive rebounds as a team and 19 defensive rebounds. Cluff wasn’t the only one, Kaufman-Renn grabbed 10 defensive rebounds in his own. 2 Boilermakers had almost as many rebounds alone as the entire Bruins squad had as a team. Still, UCLA played them tough, they needed those every board they got.”
