“Cabo Verde are no fluke. They proved it in this game where you can argue they were the better team in a fantastic game. After some tight play, Cabo Verde made history and opened this game up in one blast of a free kick past the wall and into the bottom corner for the nation’s first ever World Cup goal. Kevin Pina put himself in the history books and gave his team the momentum. Cabo Verde remained relentless, but Uruguay didn’t back down and eventually Araújo levelled it with a diving header to finally beat Vizinho and end his magical run. After some tense moments, Uruguay miraculously found another goal, thanks to an assist from Araújo to send their fans into a frenzy. From abject misery to jubilation going into halftime. Unfortunately for them, Cabo Verde remained determined and a mistake at the back gave them another goal on Helio Varela’s very first touch. The rest of the game was intense and full of close calls. Ironically not many saves as most of those shots were just wide. ”
