“Miami of Ohio’s magical season dies with a whimper. Can’t say I’m surprised, but I really wish they had made this one close. They put up a better fight than some teams in this tournament, but just like the Patriots, the talks of an easy schedule finally caught up on them. They can hold their head high as a group until they look at their shooting splits. There are many reasons why this happened, mostly thanks to Tennessee’s wonderful defense, but if they want to blame one man, I will nominate Ja’Kobi Gillespie. In the first half he had 22 points. That alone would put him 20th all-time for points in a single NCAA tournament game by a Volunteer. His 29 ranks 3rd all-time and ties the record Chaz Lanier put up last year in the round of 64; how fitting. There was exactly 1 man who could overcome the stifling Volunteer defense and that was Peter Suder who was the only Redhawk with double digit points. His 27 is easily the most a Redhawk has put up in the NCAA tournament in the 21st century.”
