“The New York Islanders had to win this game. Fittingly, John Tavares stood in the way. Also fittingly, the Leafs played horribly. They lived up to what is on the line, nothing, by playing like that they had nothing to play for. It is a genuine miracle that this game was actually kinda close more often than not on the scoreboard. On one hand, I will blame the Islanders clearly not being used to DeBoer’s defensive structure. It’s definitely an off night for Sorokin, but I think the bigger issue was when the system had to be rushed on a turnover, it looked like a huge mess. Either the Leafs got to screen Sorokin with no trouble or took advantage of an absurd amount of traffic for a lucky bounce in the case of Morgan Reilly’s 3rd period goal. The Islanders are honestly lucky the Leafs played so poorly or else they may have been exposed more. On the other side, holy shit the Leafs fed rookie Artur Akhtyamov to the wolves in his first career start. He was thankfully was up to the task.”

The New York Islanders had to win this game. Fittingly, John Tavares stood in the way. Also fittingly, the Leafs played horribly. They lived up to what is on the line, nothing, by playing like that they had nothing to play for.
