The last NHL game before the Olympic break and unfortunately, it was mediocre. This game may be proof that the Kings need Panarin more than we realized. Not only did the Kings get dominated in their zone, they also had long stretches where they couldn’t generate their own good chances outside of powerplays. It all went awry when the Golden Knights scored 4 first period goals on 4 consecutive shots. Eichel broke the ice thanks to a missed assignment after Stone snuck a pass by 2 Kings. LA actually gained some control after that, only for Stone to score after Eichel and Barbashev out-hustled the Kings. A nice pass play on the powerplay set up Dorofeyev for goal #3. Then, as if things couldn’t get worse, Marner scored goal #4 20 seconds later. At that point, they could’ve ended the game there. Kings got some more chances, but Vegas just sat back and waited for the end. Even worse for me personally, Kuzmenko got hurt and needed help leaving the ice. That broke my heart. I love that guy.
