Pretty good game that could’ve been even better had the Yzerplan not decided to become so gosh dang efficient. Sens fans can’t catch a break. Goaltending costs them another game. It was hurting them early with the Red Wings jumping all over it. The Red Wings scored 3 goals in the first period while keeping Ottawa off the scoreboard despite getting outshot 17-8. The Sens did try to make this game competitive with a couple scrappy goals from Giroux and Cozens. Even with Lucas Raymond scoring to make it 4-2 after 2 periods, I thought the Senators were the better team in that period. Brady Tkachuk cut the lead in half thanks to a slick play from Stutzle and kept up the pressure. After getting a bunch of shots, the Sens got a power play that looked like it would change the tide. It did do that, just for the team you wouldn’t expect. Michael Rasmussen’s shorthanded goal basically wrapped this game up, failing the challenge and getting a penalty did Ottawa no favours. Still gets a thumbs up.
