IHO • Quarterfinals02/18/2026

This was a sand paper kind of game. Full of friction. This was the longest any of these tournament games have gone without a goal so far. It wasn’t until halfway through the game when a smart tip from Dylan Larkin broke the deadlock. Prior to that goal, Markstrom was playing great in an even game. After that goal, Markstrom was forced to stand on his head as the USA was eager to add to that lead while Sweden was forced to play on their heels. Unfortunately for the Americans, they weren’t able to add to it. They shifted gears in the 3rd and went into a shell, opening the ice for Sweden in the neutral zone. The Swedes just needed one good pass to Zibenejad to snipe it just through the pad of Hellebuyck. It gave us overtime and OT was slow, but Quinn Hughes sniped it home to end this tight game. Hughes was great in OT, to the point I literally said “I feel like Quinn Hughes is going to do something” right before he scored. Markstrom was brilliant and Larkin was everywhere for the USA.
