“Who needs strikeouts?! Not the Tigers, as they shut out the scrappy Guardians, and Jansen continues his climb to becoming the third reliever ever with 500 saves. He is now 9 away. More importantly, the advantages of a no-strikeout shutout are as follows: Lots of action. Most of the plate appearances ended with something happening, even if it was an easy out. There's always a chance to come back with the chance of an error. Elite pitching, lots of weak contact created by good pitching. The cons are obvious. Bad hitting reared its ugly head, and the Tigers' early lead made the win feel inevitable for them. Fittingly, that first run came from a groundout, almost like that was the theme. Another theme of my recent Tigers experiences: Eduardo Valencia. Virtually every time I watch this guy, he balls out. He got the only home run in this game while Dingler and Torkelson drove in the other 2 runs. Regardless of the game's quality, I very much appreciate the statistical oddities. ”
