“The Islanders came into this game after back-to-back gams of going down 3-0 right away. They switched it up tonight and took the 3-0 lead themselves while the Flames are helpless. This wasn’t Cooley’s best night, but anyone blaming him is ridiculous. The Flames came out sluggish, slow and sloppy, the dreaded triple SSS of bad. The Flames gave up like 5 breakaways in the 1st period alone, Cooley was a big part of why it wasn’t worse on the scoreboard. Holmstrom was a nightmare in the 1st. In spite of that, the Islanders truly swapped roles completely with their performance against the Kings. They let the Flames slowly crawl back into this game. Wolf came in for Cooley and was fantastic, making a bunch of amazing saves with his agility. After a scoreless 2nd, Backlund scored to pass Kent Nilsson and put himself 5th all-time in goals for the Flames, Coleman doubled our score to put us within 1. Unfortunately, Big Save Dave lived up to his name and made sure New York got 2 valuable points.”
