“Southern was the higher rated team on KenPom but you couldn’t tell by the way they played in this one. SJSU had a clear size advantage and they used it to out rebound and just out muscle the Jags at times, Japhet Moundi was particularly impressive. I wanted more from the Spartans on offense, there were just so many possessions with dribble hand offs and passing the ball through Garland like 10 feet beyond the arc, that’s just killing time. Amboree was particularly impressive for Southern, some elite speed and tough defense gave the Spartans trouble but Garland showed his skills as a ball handler. More people need to be comfortable handling the ball besides Colby Garland though, he is almost the entire team and that makes it easy to game plan against you. Overall good win, much better free throw shooting, hopefully we keep this momentum heading into the Acrisure Classic for feast week”
