“Since 2014 (I was 9), I’ve been obsessed with March Madness. It was my dream to go. Christmas 2019 made it real. COVID killed it. Finally, on this day, I made it. Purdue came out cold and FDU fought. When FDU chants erupted late in the 1st half from court side to the last row where we sat, I was satisfied. I thought I knew what awaited FDU. I’d seen it so many times. My brother and I broke the 2nd half down into chunks between timeouts. Just keep it close to each next break we said. Purdue fans by us were in hell. I felt sympathy for them after OSU in 2021. The chants grew louder and more frequent. I was pulling for FDU harder than I do for my teams. FDU completed the miracle. The vibes in the arena never recovered. The FAU-Memphis game after didn’t have the crowd it should have. As much as I hate Purdue, I have tremendous respect for Matt Painter. He stayed extra long for postgame to ensure everyone got what they needed. Pure class. Easy 10. Thanks Mom, for the best gift ever.”
