This is the first time since 2016 that the Astros will not be in the ALCS. The Tigers conducted a bullpen game started by Tyler Holton. The Togers also used Brennan Hanifee, Brant Hurter, Beau Brieske, Jackson Jobe, Sean Guenther, and Will Vest. The Astros started Hunter Brown. The pitching on both sides was dominant through five innings. The Tigers got on the board in the 6th from a Parker Meadows homer off the right field foul pole. Jackson Jobe was used to start the 7th inning for the Tigers. He hit Victor Caratini on the first pitch. Jeremy Pẽna singled. Mauricio Dubón reached on an infield single to load the bases with none out. Jon Singleton hit a grounder to first base, where Spencer Torkelson made a low throw that Jake Rogers couldn’t grab in time. 1-1. Jose Altuve followed that with a sacrifice fly. 2-1. The Tigers put Guenther in, who immediately got a grounder for a double play. In the top of the 8th, Ryan Pressly came in for the Astros. He began the inning by striking out Meadows. Kerry Carpenter singled. Matt Vierling singled, Carpenter ran to third. Carpenter scored on a wild pitch by Pressly. Riley Greene struck out. The Astros put in Josh Hader. Colt Keith walked to load the bases. Andy Ibáñez pinch hit for Zach McKinstry. Ibáñez hit a 3-run double down the left field line to take a 5-2 lead. Will Vest pitched the 9th to try to shut it down. Caratini struck out. Peña flew out. Dubón grounded out. Tigers win. Hunter Brown’s final line: 5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K on 99 pitches.
