“The Sabres win their first playoff series in 19 years and they do it by jumping on the Bruins early and never letting Boston fully recover. Even though this game was close on the scoreboard, it didn’t feel close at any point on the ice. Buffalo was clearly the better team through 2 periods, then Boston controlled play in the 3rd while the Sabres focussed on just defending their lead. Don’t get me wrong, it was still entertaining, mainly thanks to the aforementioned history. However; after Samuelsson scored to make it 2-0 in the 1st, it felt like the end for Boston. That feeling only grew with how Alex Lyon has played in this series and in this game (I have receipts for wanting Lyon on the Flames). Pasta finally broke through in the 2nd. The Bruins made it look like they had a chance until Benson’s goal early in the 3rd. Felt like the result was decided at that point. Fittingly, just like game 1, a Tage Thompson takeover ended up being the deciding factor. Dahlin was excellent as well. ”

Even though this game was close on the scoreboard, it didn’t feel close at any point on the ice. Buffalo was clearly the better team through 2 periods, then Boston controlled play in the 3rd while the Sabres focussed on just defending their lead. Don’t get me wrong, it was still entertaining, mainly thanks to the aforementioned history. However; after Samuelsson scored to make it 2-0 in the 1st, it felt like the end for Boston.
