“Just rewatched it; an incredible result that was probably more mental than anything. Virginias offense was poor in the first half and they didn’t impose their size enough, but it was tied at half. However, Umbc came out looking completely different, give credit to their coach(now Virginias) Ryan Odom. They started full court pressing and pushing the pace, which Virginia couldn’t cope with and Umbc, along with some hot 3 point shooting, ran out to a big lead. From there Virginia were just shell shocked and couldn’t respond, Umbc got a friendly whistle from the refs too. It’s crazy to see how much the quality of basketball has progressed. One of the reasons Virginia didn’t rebound well was a lot of their shots missed by a lot. Still fun to watch Umbc, they really were just having so fun and that’s probably part of why they played so well; they never felt the pressure even with the lead. And Lyles played out of his mind in the second half.”
