Prime Monday Night Hockey, always a great broadcast, sometimes the game is just okay. This was one of those okay games. We had plenty of action. The Wild opened the scoring thanks to Tarasenko after Minnesota bombarded the Leafs’ defense. Hartman doubled the lead less than 5 minutes later and I could feel the pessimism resonating from Scotiabank. Right before the end of the 1st, Matthew Knies snuck a pass through to Tavares and all of a sudden it was a 1-goal game going into intermission. Perhaps the Leafs could keep it competitive. That thought died when Marcus Foligno tipped a Faber shot right past Will to make it 3-1. Tarasenko and Foligno both scored a 2nd goal each in the period and we got the blowout many Leafs fans likely feared. This was looking like a complete blowout, but not so fast, the Leafs didn’t die too quietly. Nick Robertson scored 6 minutes in, Matthews scored about 10 minutes later. Unfortunately, the mountain was too high to climb and the Wild sealed a 6-3 win.
