“That Valenzuela 10-pitch walk in the fifth was perfect. With Nathan Lukes on the IL and Davis Schneider seeing limited at-bats, the lineup sorely needs someone who can eat up pitches and burn out pitchers. Okamoto’s bat is great, obviously, but he’s been a lot of fun defensively as well. I feel good about him being there for at least the next four years. Jeff Hoffman looked decent to complete the eighth scoreless, which means it’s someone else’s turn to stink the place up. Enter: Tyler Rogers. What a collapse from the usually reliable submariner. Varland was able to come in and stop the bleeding but being down by one run was too much to overcome for last year’s “comeback kids.””
