Playoff rematch. My only question was this: will the Hurricanes bully old man Ovechkin? The answer: Nope, instead Carolina bullied the entire Captials team. Nic Dowd would have something to say about that though. He unleashed a vicious hit to make a statement and then later got into a fight. It’s hard to say exactly how much those actions helped the Capitals. Luckily, Dowd made a more tangible impact when he scored a goal late in the 3rd off a sweet feed from Sandin to take the lead. It looked like that would be the winner until Stankoven came flying in and slotted home the tying goal to send this game to overtime. OT was alright, Caps and Hurricanes had their chances, but Bussi and Thompson had it locked down. We sadly got the shootout and Seth Jarvis dangled Thompson out of his shoes to put away the winning goal. I feel bad for Thompson, dude had a much busier night, played great and he loses in the skill competition. It’s a tired narrative, but 3-on-3 OT is so much better.
