“This is a two-man rotation. Every game that isn’t started by Gausman or Cease is a bullpen game. That was on full display today with faux-starter Patrick Corbin who put down four decent innings and then fell apart at the absurdity of actually finishing the fifth. I can’t wait for this team to have real starting pitching again. On the offensive side of things, Ernie Clement tied the MLB lead for doubles with 13, but he did it in fewer games than the next three hitters at the top of the list. Yohendrick Piñango announced his arrival to the Show with his first career hit. That Vladdy/Sánchez combo is kind of nasty. Davis keeps making the least of the limited opportunities he’s given. Hoffman, given a two-run lead and a fresh 8th inning entrance, managed to get it done in 24 pitches. And then the real closer Louis Varland came in to wrap things up faster in the 9th.”
