MLB • Wildcard Game09/30/2014

No matter how questionable the single game Wildcard was in terms of fairness, there’s no denying that it gave us some fantastic games, none better than this one. This classic also represents the official coming out party of the 2014-15 Royals aka Royalball aka Forever Royals, whatever you want to call them, they were fun. Ironically it looked like Kansas City’s legendary bullpen was going to be their downfall. The A’s jumped to a 4-run lead on the back of an underrated performance from Brandon Moss who hit a 3-run home run before his teammates bullied the nearly infallible Kelvin Herrera. I call this the coming out party for this team because it perfectly defines what made them great. In the 8th they abused Lester by stealing 4 bases and scoring 3 runs because of it before another stolen base in the 9th helped send this game to extras. The bullpen shut down the A’s offense to set up Salvador Perez’s heroic moment when he drove in the winning run in the 12th after Colon caused chaos.

The best Wild Card game in MLB history and it's not a debate. I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I want the MLB to go back to the 1 game Wild Card. I think the feeling have changed now that there is 2 Wild Card matchups instead of only one due to the expansion of the playoffs, but games like these were just so awesome. Red Sox vs Yankees in 2021, 1 game at the greatest stadium in baseball. While that wasn't necessarily the best game, the biggest rivals in baseball-hell in all of sports, each with the same record, fighting in one single game to advance in the playoffs. Bring back the 1 game Wild Card.
