Two teams on nearly polar opposite trajectories and somehow this game was awesome, close and ended with Colorado’s first regulation home loss of the season. I say close, but Colorado still had the advantage, mainly in their shots and quality of scoring chances. This game very easily could’ve gotten out of hand for Nashville. Right after O’Reilly scored 30 seconds in, Brock Nelson tied it up off a rebound. Then, Sam Girard had perfect positioning in front of the net for goal #2, problem was that goal would be for Nashville and O’Reilly’s 2nd goal of the game. I honestly believe that moment gave the Preds a belief that the Avs aren’t invincible. While you can credit that to coaching, I would argue it’s easier to have that belief when your goaltender is on fire. Juuse Saros was incredible after the 1st period, stonewalling the dynamic Avalanche offense and helping to preserve Nashville’s slim lead. O’Reilly matched the Avs’ goal total on his own and the Preds leave with a massive win.
