Islanders win a tough game and leave with back-to-back wins against their subway-having rival. The Rangers put up a much better effort than I expected, only for it to be all for naught in this gnarly game. Islanders tried to ambush the Rangers early, clearly realizing that the Rangers are incapable of making a comeback considering the state of their team. Jonathon Quick was able to stand strong and give the Rangers a chance to attack bad. Neither team was able to use their speed as, likely due to a combination of being gassed from a back-to-back and unrelenting trust on their goalies, neither team wanted to make a mistake. All it would take is one blast from Soucy, a Ranger just a couple days ago, to sneak by Quick to put the Rangers in hole. A hole Schaefer would push them deeper down just before the end of the 2nd. Zibanejad do try to get them out and they got a few really good chances in the 3rd, still didn’t matter. Islanders left with a mostly comfortable win. Never in doubt.
