Welsh-Ryan Arena is the on-campus home of Northwestern Wildcats basketball in Evanston, Illinois. Following a major renovation, the arena seats just over 7,000 in a modernized bowl with upgraded club and premium seating. It gives the Wildcats a Big Ten home venue just outside Chicago, blending campus intimacy with big-conference amenities. The arena also hosts Northwestern volleyball and wrestling.
The arena opened in 1952 and was given its current name in 1983; after the 2016-17 season it underwent a 20-month, $110 million renovation funded largely by gifts from Patrick and Shirley Ryan and reopened in November 2018. It served as the Wildcats' home during the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in March 2017, just before the renovation closed the building. The extensive rebuild reduced seating capacity in exchange for modern amenities and sightlines. It remains Northwestern's primary basketball venue in the Big Ten.
