Shell Energy Stadium

Shell Energy Stadium in Houston's East Downtown is the home of the Houston Dynamo and a cornerstone of MLS's push into soccer-specific venues in the Sun Belt. Its steep seating bowl and close-to-pitch sightlines create one of the league's most authentic atmospheres, with the El Batallon supporters group driving chants and tifo displays from the south end. The open-air design handles Houston heat while keeping the noise trapped, and match nights spill into EaDo's bar and restaurant scene. It's a venue built for footy first, not a football field with lines painted on.

Opened in 2012 as BBVA Compass Stadium and later known as PNC Stadium, the venue gave Houston a dedicated home after years at NRG Stadium's cavernous expanse. It hosted the 2016 Copa America Centenario and multiple MLS Cup Playoffs matches, establishing Houston as a serious soccer market. The Dynamo's early success after moving here helped validate the MLS soccer-specific stadium boom. Rebranded Shell Energy Stadium in 2023, it remains the spiritual home of Houston's growing supporters culture.
